Where to Find the Best Catering Services for Your Wedding

A great catering service will make sure that everyone is well fed and happy, and will leave people with a positive impression of the wedding and the sense of enjoying a truly special occasion. For those wondering where to find the best catering services for your wedding, here are a few helpful tips.

One of the first places to look for anyone hoping to find the ideal wedding catering service is in your local business directory, as you will find many of the professional and well established companies advertising here. You may find that your city or state has a business directory or two, so you should make checking them a top priority.

Look not only for wedding caterers, but also those who offer to cater to specific tastes and cuisines, such as French caterers, Italian caterers or Jewish caterers. If you have your heart set on a specific cuisine that you think would be the most for your special day, then it is a great idea to see what they can do to adapt to your occasion.

The next thing to do to find the best catering services for your wedding is to ask around friends and family, as you may very well find someone in your community who has thrown their own wedding and enjoyed an excellent catering service.

It can be a bit of a risk when browsing services in a business directory, as one is never sure whether the services are of a high quality or not. Hearing directly from a person who has already hired them that they enjoyed a spectacular service is one way of increasing your chances of hiring someone who will make your wedding dinner memorable in all the right ways.

If your immediate friends and family have not hired any catering company that was particularly memorable or great, they might know someone else who has. Ask them to reach out to their own friends and contacts to see if they can also put you in touch with someone great and local to cater your big day.

Another suggestion is to ask wedding professionals in your area if they can recommend any good caterers. If you have hired a wedding planner then these people are very likely to have the contact details of a few quality caterers that they work with, assuring you of a tried-and-tested catering company that you can rely on.

Even if you are not hiring a wedding planner, you may find that many of these professionals are still happy to hand out references to their contacts. This may earn a commission or not, but you will quickly gain access to some of the best caterers in your area who could help make your wedding party truly memorable.

Lastly, go online and go a quick Google search to find the best catering services for your wedding in your local area – many of the top caterers all have their own websites detailing their menus and what is included in their services. This is a very quick and simple way to find many potential service providers who could be the ideal choice for you.

Be aware, however, that in all cases you should do your own online research into a company’s reputation before you hire them. The internet is also an excellent source of impartial customer reviews, and you should be sure to read these for a broader perspective before making your final decision.

Common Mistakes Made in Wedding Gown Selection

Most important attire in a girl’s life is her wedding costume. A girl, from her young teens starts planning about her gown and wants to look like a perfect fairy, straight from any fairytale on her special day. But when the actual time comes for picking up the right one, most women make some crucial mistakes. These mistakes are enlisted below in this article:

Shopping in advance:

Most girls start to shop very early. Since plans of tying the knot are as exciting, girls love shopping. So the first thing she buys for her special day is her gown. But during the course of time and several other associated pre-marriage stresses, most of the girls end up in losing some of their weight. Moreover, there are reported cases that, some girls get so much pampering from her relatives that they gain huge weight before their ceremony ( though this is rare as girls, especially now when girls are always conscious about their weight). This increase and decrease in the weight creates a barrier in the apparel fitting.

Trying too many dresses:

Some girls in order to grab the pristine and sophisticated attire search or pay a visit to innumerable shops and designer scan numerous style, designs, cuts, colours and fabrics. The result is, at the end of the day they get too confused under the ocean wide collection of garments and land on to an ill fitted attire which hampers all the glamour of the day.

Going for discounted items:

Some girls prefer to avail discounts on their garments. Now as these things are a bit costly, so hunting for some lucrative discounts is a profitable plan. But, the problem is, most discounted items lack the basic market standards and hence you need to compromise with ill fitted clothes.

Strictly abiding the trend

Some girls blindly go by trend like, some famous celebrity and others take reference from their friends’ floor kissing attires. But that’s not the way it should be. Sure following trends is good but doing it blindly will not serve you well. A trending one might not look so good on you.

Result for these mistakes and subsequently remedy:

These kinds of mistakes usually harm the fittings, hampering the overall layout of the look. Now attires as mentioned above are costly and you cannot change it from scratch. As all the attires are unique and further alterations of attires will lead with huge waste of time, money and energy and all these are quite primitive when the tension bells of “getting hitched” are knocking at the door. So, a perfect solution is alteration. An alteration specialist will skilfully alter your costume keeping in mind your bespoke statistics and will make the look appear like an exclusive piece, solely designed for you.

The Dos and Donts to Follow While Choosing a Bridal Dress

Bridal dresses are something that involves precision, style, beauty and most importantly how it fits on the bride to enhance her looks. A bride-to-be spends a lot of her time to choose the right couture for herself which is one of the most important aspects that she needs to look out for apart from making arrangements for the wedding. Other provisions include invitation cards, decorations, hiring photographers, arranging for the food and the wedding cake and purchasing the wedding favours for the guests. There are several other minor aspects like choosing her accessories, her makeup, hairdressers, etc. which is often coordinated with the couture.

You may have a choice of customising your dress by getting a tailor to stitch it for you or you could opt for the easier option of buying readymade ones that can be fitted to your body type by alteration experts. While you go ahead in making a choice on the bridal wear that suits you just well, here are a few dos and don’ts you could consider.

• Do not purchase it at the last minute – Even if you have other wedding tasks to attend to, your dress should get equal attention as it is something you would be donning on your special day. You would be photographed wearing it and therefore, should be something that is perfect. You could consider buying the dress beforehand and make necessary alterations keeping the fact in mind that you could either lose or gain weight before your wedding day. Last moment purchase could make you have a dearth of choices and thus allowing you to end up in any random dress that you come across.

• Take advantages of other services – Stores stocking up on bridal dresses come to the aid of most brides where they get to put their hands on the dresses for bride’s maids. These stores also help you with purchasing little favours for your guests and thus sorting out on your troubles for making arrangements for these from elsewhere.

• Make visits to several stores – Several stores specialise in bridal dresses and thus provide brides with couture that match their choice as well as their budget. Numerous designers come up with exclusive and modern designs that look alluring and you could choose the designs of your choice. These stores at times allow brides to have trials on dresses that they like and accordingly allowing you to make a decision.

Tips for Successful Wedding Videos

Your wedding video will be the best memento of your big day enhanced with emotions, joy and love. This means you will want a video with superior quality, music to boost the moment, slow motion movements that will show off your love story. Today wedding videos are more than movies recorded on a tape. Producing a wedding video incorporates all details with a realistic approach that will elevate every single detail of the ceremony.

There have been great achievements in the video technology over the last decade, so the video is becoming such a huge part of every wedding. There have been also changes in the preferred wedding style of videography, so the only question that remains is: Who to choose and how do you find the right videographer for your day.

Film making techniques are very often required over the past seven years as it is no longer necessary to carry everywhere light sensitive cameras that will obstruct the scene. Smaller, less obvious cameras are more preferable option when it comes to recording the wedding events and producing love memories.

The wedding video is far more than capturing content. Whatever your wedding theme is, the wedding video is a lot more than pixels per inch and lines of resolution. As you look at the videographer’s website you need to decide if they are right for you. Even if it’s not always possible to have an exact plan keep an eye on the style, the capacity of the equipment because the final product is much more important than who is the owner of the studio. On the website you need to examine the work of the videographer and to gather more detailed information about the price of their packages. You’ll find that having as much information as possible ahead of time will influence every aspect of your wedding video, from the types of shots you’ll plan for, to the overall look and feel in the editing phase. Latter on, you can set an appointment that will give you a great opportunity to select the video package you are most comfortable with. It will also help you familiarize yourself with everything from potential lighting and sound issues with the order of events, to assume what scenes to include in the final version of the wedding video.

As obvious as it sounds, confirm that your videographer is well familiar with different types of video products. Make sure they have specialized in weddings so they are capable to choose the proper place and capture all the special moments as they happen in real time. Remember to ask your videographer about the editing skills they have. The quality of the sound and the special effects are a great way to add a dynamic to the entire story and turn off any unpleasant mistakes into advantages through the editing. Whether the wedding is formal, casual, theme-oriented or traditional, the most important goal is to establish a partnership with a wedding studio so they can deliver a video full of wonderful memories from your big day.

The Wedding Gurus Tips For Planning An Outdoor Wedding

The Wedding Gurus Tips For Planning An Outdoor WeddingPLANNING

TIPS FOR PLANNING AN OUTDOOR WEDDING

So you want to have an outdoor wedding? Outdoor weddings are beautiful – nothing is lovelier than a sunny day with a gorgeous white tent set up in an outdoor landscape. Then there are the mosquitoes, oh and the rain. Let’s not forget about the wind. And the heat. Oh and the cold. And the fact that you have to build a venue from the ground up – which requires kitchen space, tables, chairs, bars, a dance floor, washrooms, power, parking… the list goes on. Suddenly that little casual inexpensive backyard wedding you wanted to have is way over budget and has you more stressed out than any bride should be.

I’ve planned many outdoor weddings in my wedding planning career – I’ve seen the way to do it right, and the way to do it very very wrong. An outdoor event, more than any other type of wedding, needs precise planning. My best recommendation is to hire a wedding planner if you plan on hosting your wedding outdoors. It’s money well spent to have it planned properly and to have someone on site to deal with problems that can arise. And remember, the comfort and enjoyment of your guests should be your number one priority, so make sure to keep your guests in mind when planning the details.

My motto with planning tent weddings is ‘Plan for the worse, but hope for the best’. You want to make sure you are prepared for anything! Here are my tips for planning a flawless outdoor wedding.

Budget

Some people think that planning an outdoor wedding will save them money. Nothing is further from the truth! Often times they cost more. It all depends on your vision – if you are happy with a simple tent, basic tables and chairs set up on the grass, and a simple meal for fifty guests – then cost wise you are right on track. But if you want the full kit and caboodle, then you will have to give the budget a lot of thought and do your research. There are so many factors to consider that you wouldn’t otherwise have to if you were having your wedding at a venue. It’s a good idea to do some research on costs before deciding to go ahead with it. Tents and everything that goes with them can be quite pricey.

Tents

You will have to rent a tent or several tents – for the dining area, cocktail and/or dancing area, kitchen, and washroom. You will need a tent large enough to fit all the tables and chairs, a dance floor, bars, and enough room for guests to get around. Make sure to create a proper floor plan so that you know you have enough room for everything and everybody. Couples often forget to make room for people. Two hundred people under one tent waiting in line at the bar can take up a lot of space!

You will also need tented space for the caterers that is located adjacent to the main dining tent. If it rains you don’t want food to get wet. You will also have to consider where the guests will be parking and how they will get to the tent area if it is raining. Many tent companies can provide walk-way canopies to keep guests dry as they walk to the wedding site.

Power

I can’t say this enough – have enough power! All it takes to blow the breaker is plugging in the caterer’s coffee maker, and there goes your lighting and your sound. This could happen all night and it’s a real pain. Hire a company to come in to set up a generator that can provide power for everything. Some folks think they can just plug everything into the outside outlets of their house with extension cords – this will never be enough power to run the needs for an entire wedding. The company that provides the generator will ask you what your requirements are and will set you up with enough power to keep you going all night long.

Weather

Of course, every bride envisions a perfect sunny day for her wedding, but it’s inevitable – Mother Nature can be a real pain! The chances of having the perfect sunny day, with the ideal temperature and a slight breeze are slim. The weather can be unpredictable, so you want to be prepared. If an outdoor wedding is planned correctly you can lessen the impact of Mother Nature. Have several back-up plans, especially if you plan on having your wedding ceremony outside. It’s not a bad idea to book a small tent for the ceremony. If the weather cooperates then you won’t have to use it, but it’s good insurance to have in case the weather isn’t ideal. Otherwise, you will end up having to get married in your dining tent – not what most brides envision for their wedding ceremony!

Washrooms

There are several options when it comes to renting washrooms. The good old porta potty does the trick but we all know how nasty those can be! If you want something that doesn’t smell like raw sewage, you can opt for the washroom trailers that come with air conditioning, lighting, running water and flushing toilets. Make sure to have enough washrooms – this is not the place to scrimp on the budget! One toilet for every 25 guests ensures that line-ups are kept to a minimum. If you have some disabled guests, make sure to accommodate them as well with wheelchair accessible units. You also want to ensure the area is covered from the elements so that guests don’t get drenched when they go to the washroom.

Kitchen

Your caterers need a dry space out of the sun where they can set up. Some caterers come with portable kitchen trailers, but they will still need an area away from the elements to spread out so that they can plate and set up the food. Have some tables set up for them as well as large garbage cans with bags for scraping uneaten food into.

Parking

When choosing the location for your wedding, make sure there will be ample space for parking 100+ vehicles. If the planned parking area is in a field or grassy area, have a plan B in case of rain. The ground can get soft with a lot of rain and cars can get stuck!

Flooring

I know what you are thinking – we are fine on the grass. It’s a backyard wedding – let’s just save some money. I can tell you from experience that flooring is your number one guarantee against rain. Just because you have a tent does not mean that you will be high and dry. If there is even the slightest angle in the ground, which there always is as no ground is perfectly flat, the water will find its way in and create puddles everywhere. I have seen it happen! Flooring allows the water to run underneath it and keeps everything dry. Even better, set the entire tent and it’s flooring up on risers to ensure no water gets in! The best part, your floor will be perfectly level so that tables and chairs will be set up straight and won’t slant because of the soft ground and pesky gofer holes.

Tables and Chairs

Most tent companies have tables and chairs for rent. Make sure that it is in their contract that they set up the tables and chairs. This isn’t something you want to be doing the day before your wedding. Give the floorplan to the tent company and let them do all the heavy lifting. It’s money well spent to save the headache of having to set up all those tables and chairs. And don’t forget chairs for the ceremony! You may be able to use the same chairs for the reception, so ask your rental company about the cost of transferring the chairs from the ceremony to the reception site.

Lighting

Yes, it will get dark – people need to see! Hire a lighting company to come in to set up decorative lighting as well as lighting for the bar area, the kitchen area, washrooms and the path leading to the tent so guests can see where they are going once the sun sets.

Staging

Having a band? You must provide staging for a band so that they are up and off the ground and away from any possible water that could get in the tent from rain. Any DJ equipment must be protected as well and power outlets should be put inside power boxes to keep them away from moisture.

Storage

Wedding set-ups come with a lot of stuff. Have a small tent set up to the side to store the caterer’s equipment, boxes from rental companies, ice machines, etc.

Bars

There are many companies that rent portable bars. Talk to your caterer to see if bartending is a service they provide. If not, there are several bartending companies that can do that for you. They will tell you what you need to set up the bar, but here is the list:

– portable bars

– back tables

– ice (there are many companies that can deliver a freezer full with bags of ice for the entire event)

– alcohol and mix

– glassware

– bar tools (shakers, shot glasses, bottle openers, wine corkscrews)

– garbage and recycling cans with bags

You should also ensure you have a cooler source for beer and wine – either portable coolers or bins of ice.

Air Conditioning / Heat

There are rental companies who can set you up with portable air conditioners and heaters. No one wants to sit in a tent in the sweltering heat. On the other end of the spectrum, even in summer, temperatures can get cool at night, so heating can be a life saver. It’s important to keep your guests comfortable. Check the weather forecast and make last minute preparations if needed.

Bugs

Nothing chases guests away faster than the infamous mosquito. There are many companies out there that can come in and spray for bugs to keep them away on your wedding day. Choose a company with environmentally friendly choices only. You don’t want to be spraying foggy chemicals that can be irritating and get in guest’s food and drinks.

Permits

Check with your local community if you require permits for tents, parking, sound, and alcohol. You want to make sure you have this covered so that you don’t end up with fines and the proper measures are taken to ensure everyone’s safety.

Choosing a Color for Your Wedding Dress

The most traditional Western wedding dresses come in all different shades of white, each of these different colors more for different skin tones and tastes. However, the more adventurous can now find more colorful options on the market too, ideal for standing out from the pack and celebrating a truly unique wedding.

Many major brands such as Marisa and Allure bridal wedding dresses have several different shades of white for you to consider first, as you may well find that going down the traditional route is better for you. If you do this, simply be aware that there will be better shades to suit your natural coloring.

It is often recommended that very fair skinned brides choose more ivory shades in their wedding gowns, since dark skinned women can opt for almost every shade of white for their dress. Skins with yellow undertones often do very well with pure white dresses, and tanned skins look particularly nice with richer, cream colored whites.

This is just a brief guide to whites that you can wear, so try out a few of the different ones above and see just how they work together with your particular skin tone. If you notice that the tips given above are correct but you are not particularly happy anyway with this particular colour, you can always try something more dramatic.

It is a less traditional choice than classic white Pronovia or Allure bridal wedding dresses, but selecting a brighter shade of color can actually look stunning. You may already have a color in mind that suits your tastes and your theme, but if not, why not consider the options below.

Firstly, one option that is very popular is keeping a white dress but with a splash of bright color thrown in. This helps blend the traditional and the modern, and helps you stand out without looking too bold or garish. One common choice is a streak of color running down the back of the dress and throughout the dress train.

This particular style can be especially eye catching and very flattering, drawing the eye down the back of the dress. Another option for a splash of colour includes a white dress with colorful motifs, such as black, grey or pinks flowers or beaded lace. This is a way of adding extra embellishment to your gown that will really turn heads, without going too bold with color.

Other colors that can look great as wedding dresses include soft pastels, such as pale yellows, lilacs, pinks and blues. All of these can be sumptuous and delicate, and you have more choice here for a dress that will flatter you in particular.

Despite the boom in the popularity of soft pastels as great colors for your wedding dress, some prefer even bolder shades. Really unusual colors that work well for wedding dresses include dramatic shades such as deep jewel tones like emerald, sapphire and ruby, or striking black and white designs. Be careful not to choose a color that is too garish or bright for best results.

Deeper and richer colors also work best when they are paired with a truly dramatic dress style, with plenty of frills and taffeta, length and width. To distinguish your colored wedding gown from a regular ball gown, a really dramatic and sumptuous cut should be chosen.

Whether you settle for classically beautiful white Allure bridal wedding dresses or something far more daring, you can make almost any color work for you at your wedding. All you need to be aware of is ensuring that you choose a color that suits you and the theme of your wedding, and a great cut.

Planning for a Perfect Wedding Dress

The first thing she should do is consider the average cost and keep in mind that a huge range of adjustments that may be necessary for various types of dresses. Wedding dress alterations can be complex so staying open-minded will help. Design, fabric and detailing of the chosen dress will all play into the overall cost.

The Hemline

Shortening the hemline is a common wedding dress alteration as most women aren’t the typical model height. Style and size plays a part in the price involved with hemline adjustments. For example, a mermaid dress will have around 1/3 the hem of a princess or ball gown style dress. Ruffles on the bottom or layers also play into how much work a seamstress will have to put into it as every layer will need to be adjusted. Expect to pay a most of $250.

Bodice Work

Again, prices will vary with bodice alterations, mostly on lace and beading. Most will spend up to $150 based on how detailed they are. Wedding dress alteration prices depend on the amount of work involved which could include removing, replacing and working around intricate detailing which is time consuming.

Cups

Cups add support, especially for staples and backless dresses. Average cost of wedding dress alterations that include cups is around $50 but the effect is stunning. Everything will be held in place through the ceremony and into the reception, especially when the bride is dancing.

Bustle

There’s not much more stunning than a long, gorgeous train on the dress. As it drifts down the aisle it’s admired by all. However, when it comes to the reception dealing with a foot or more of train on the dress can be a bother. This is why a bustle is necessary. Some dresses come equipped with bustle points, some need more. Prices vary but if a full bustle is needed, this wedding dress alteration will be around $75.

Sleeves

As the lowest price wedding dress alteration, sleeves are a simple fix. The bride can choose whatever type she prefers, have them added or adjusted and it will be around $50. It also depends on embellishments much like other parts of the dress.

Tips to Save on Alterations

Thankfully there are many options to saving money on wedding dress alterations. Settling weight so there won’t be constant changes over the period between the purchase of the dress and the wedding day is one way to save. Another option is to order the dress in enough time so that there’s no inconvenience on the seamstress. Rushed wedding dress alterations always cost more. Get the dress at least three months before the big day.

Finally, be sure to bring the bra that will be worn when getting alterations, as well as other undergarments for the perfect fitting. Otherwise, there may end up being other alterations necessary because the dress will fit differently in the end.

Follow these tips to prepare for and get the most out of wedding dress alterations so that there is less money spent and less stress involved, and focus can be placed elsewhere such as on decorations or making arrangements for food and entertainment. There’s a lot that goes into the perfect wedding, don’t forget the alterations!

3 Ideas for Eye-Catching Bridesmaid Dress Designs

There are many aspects involved in creating the perfect wedding, including picking out a gorgeous wedding dress, finding the perfect venue, booking a good caterer and hiring the best musical entertainment. Another important thing to think about is picking out the right bridesmaid dresses for the occasion too, and this can be more difficult than it first appears.

One thing to consider here is that you will likely have several different people as bridesmaids, each with different body shapes, preferences and skin tones. Picking something to fit all of them at once was always going to be a tricky task, but there are some ways to please your bridesmaids and choose some eye-catching bridesmaid dresses that suit your big day too.

The first step is to take into account the personal preference of your bridesmaids in general, considering how daring they are prepared to go in the cut of their dresses and the length of the hemlines. Your bridesmaids will want to feel comfortable, but this does not mean that you cannot create a show-stopping look anyway.

Of course, the first way to create a really eye catching look is to choose a dress that has an unusual or striking cut. These can include having asymmetrical cuts, high-low hems, long Grecian gowns, 1920s style flapper dresses or anything else that stands out from the crowd. However, take into account the feelings of your bridesmaids before settling on something really unusual.

The second way to make a big impact with your bridesmaid dresses to select some really bold and exciting colors that will really draw the eye. These can include bold blues, pinks, purples and greens, many of which are popular in modern bridesmaids’ dresses anyway.

Many people choose to stick with one block of color to stay within their theme, and this is often popular with bridesmaids and is very flattering. However, you should avoid using colors that may be unflattering to your bridesmaids – after all, a wedding is a very beautiful affair. Pale peach, salmon, brown and skin tones should be avoided, and yellows and golds approached with caution.

However, a mix of colors and some gorgeous patterns on bridesmaid dresses can be an absolutely stunning way to dress your bridesmaids. You can choose floral patterns, watercolour print designs and ombre designs, all of which are eye-catching without going down the road of one block of vibrant color.

The third tip for gorgeous eye-catching bridesmaid dresses is choosing one shade of color by having each dress in a different style. These can include long flowing dresses, cocktail dresses, summer dresses and almost any other design. The key here is that the shade of color must be the same in order to unite the theme.

It is also important for the dresses to all have the same level of formality – some should not be scruffy whilst others are extremely expensive looking and classy. Often, a store selling wedding and bridesmaid dresses will be able to help you here, picking out several smart but different designs from their choice all in the same color shade.

This is a great solution for eye-catching bridesmaid dresses that please the bridesmaids too – not only can they wear a dress that they feel comfortable in, but this creates and unusual and attractive look for your wedding day. If looking for eye-catching bridesmaid dresses, consider the ideas above when picking out these garments.
