Planning for a Perfect Wedding Dress

The first thing she should do is consider the average cost and keep in mind that a huge range of adjustments that may be necessary for various types of dresses. Wedding dress alterations can be complex so staying open-minded will help. Design, fabric and detailing of the chosen dress will all play into the overall cost.

The Hemline

Shortening the hemline is a common wedding dress alteration as most women aren’t the typical model height. Style and size plays a part in the price involved with hemline adjustments. For example, a mermaid dress will have around 1/3 the hem of a princess or ball gown style dress. Ruffles on the bottom or layers also play into how much work a seamstress will have to put into it as every layer will need to be adjusted. Expect to pay a most of $250.

Bodice Work

Again, prices will vary with bodice alterations, mostly on lace and beading. Most will spend up to $150 based on how detailed they are. Wedding dress alteration prices depend on the amount of work involved which could include removing, replacing and working around intricate detailing which is time consuming.

Cups

Cups add support, especially for staples and backless dresses. Average cost of wedding dress alterations that include cups is around $50 but the effect is stunning. Everything will be held in place through the ceremony and into the reception, especially when the bride is dancing.

Bustle

There’s not much more stunning than a long, gorgeous train on the dress. As it drifts down the aisle it’s admired by all. However, when it comes to the reception dealing with a foot or more of train on the dress can be a bother. This is why a bustle is necessary. Some dresses come equipped with bustle points, some need more. Prices vary but if a full bustle is needed, this wedding dress alteration will be around $75.

Sleeves

As the lowest price wedding dress alteration, sleeves are a simple fix. The bride can choose whatever type she prefers, have them added or adjusted and it will be around $50. It also depends on embellishments much like other parts of the dress.

Tips to Save on Alterations

Thankfully there are many options to saving money on wedding dress alterations. Settling weight so there won’t be constant changes over the period between the purchase of the dress and the wedding day is one way to save. Another option is to order the dress in enough time so that there’s no inconvenience on the seamstress. Rushed wedding dress alterations always cost more. Get the dress at least three months before the big day.

Finally, be sure to bring the bra that will be worn when getting alterations, as well as other undergarments for the perfect fitting. Otherwise, there may end up being other alterations necessary because the dress will fit differently in the end.

Follow these tips to prepare for and get the most out of wedding dress alterations so that there is less money spent and less stress involved, and focus can be placed elsewhere such as on decorations or making arrangements for food and entertainment. There’s a lot that goes into the perfect wedding, don’t forget the alterations!

3 Ideas for Eye-Catching Bridesmaid Dress Designs

There are many aspects involved in creating the perfect wedding, including picking out a gorgeous wedding dress, finding the perfect venue, booking a good caterer and hiring the best musical entertainment. Another important thing to think about is picking out the right bridesmaid dresses for the occasion too, and this can be more difficult than it first appears.

One thing to consider here is that you will likely have several different people as bridesmaids, each with different body shapes, preferences and skin tones. Picking something to fit all of them at once was always going to be a tricky task, but there are some ways to please your bridesmaids and choose some eye-catching bridesmaid dresses that suit your big day too.

The first step is to take into account the personal preference of your bridesmaids in general, considering how daring they are prepared to go in the cut of their dresses and the length of the hemlines. Your bridesmaids will want to feel comfortable, but this does not mean that you cannot create a show-stopping look anyway.

Of course, the first way to create a really eye catching look is to choose a dress that has an unusual or striking cut. These can include having asymmetrical cuts, high-low hems, long Grecian gowns, 1920s style flapper dresses or anything else that stands out from the crowd. However, take into account the feelings of your bridesmaids before settling on something really unusual.

The second way to make a big impact with your bridesmaid dresses to select some really bold and exciting colors that will really draw the eye. These can include bold blues, pinks, purples and greens, many of which are popular in modern bridesmaids’ dresses anyway.

Many people choose to stick with one block of color to stay within their theme, and this is often popular with bridesmaids and is very flattering. However, you should avoid using colors that may be unflattering to your bridesmaids – after all, a wedding is a very beautiful affair. Pale peach, salmon, brown and skin tones should be avoided, and yellows and golds approached with caution.

However, a mix of colors and some gorgeous patterns on bridesmaid dresses can be an absolutely stunning way to dress your bridesmaids. You can choose floral patterns, watercolour print designs and ombre designs, all of which are eye-catching without going down the road of one block of vibrant color.

The third tip for gorgeous eye-catching bridesmaid dresses is choosing one shade of color by having each dress in a different style. These can include long flowing dresses, cocktail dresses, summer dresses and almost any other design. The key here is that the shade of color must be the same in order to unite the theme.

It is also important for the dresses to all have the same level of formality – some should not be scruffy whilst others are extremely expensive looking and classy. Often, a store selling wedding and bridesmaid dresses will be able to help you here, picking out several smart but different designs from their choice all in the same color shade.

This is a great solution for eye-catching bridesmaid dresses that please the bridesmaids too – not only can they wear a dress that they feel comfortable in, but this creates and unusual and attractive look for your wedding day. If looking for eye-catching bridesmaid dresses, consider the ideas above when picking out these garments.

Tips For Avoiding Wedding Planning Stress

Every bride has good intentions when she starts planning her wedding. You envision a beautiful day, surrounded by your family and friends, bursting with happiness and taking in all of the gorgeous details. No bride ever anticipates the pressure that can come with planning such an important day, but it’s inevitable. Everybody feels stressed at some point during their daily lives, and adding wedding planning to your already busy life can be overwhelming.

Remember that you set the tone for the wedding day and the months leading up to it. Those around you will feed off of your energy and if you are stressed, they will feel stressed. Starting off on the right track will not only keep your stress to a minimum, but the stress of the people around you as well.

So how do you get from engaged to I do without losing your mind? Here are some tips for feeling calm and balanced during the wedding planning process.

Have a Plan

The best way to avoid any stress during wedding planning is to start off with a good plan. You and your fiancé must first decide on the type of wedding you’d like to have. Discuss the options with your parents as their input often comes into play as well. If you don’t have a wedding planner, you will be on your own to create a budget plan and wedding planning timeline for the months leading up to your wedding. These are very important! Make this your first step before moving forward.

Create a Realistic Budget

Budget is the number one cause of arguments and stress during the wedding planning process. You have to discuss the budget with your fiancé and anyone else that will be contributing to the wedding – come up with a number that works for everyone and stick to it. Be honest and don’t purchase anything that is over budget without discussing it with your fiancé. Prices vary from city to city, so you might have to do some research to see what average wedding costs are in your area.

Stay Healthy

Eating well and exercising has been proven to reduce stress. Physical activity creates endorphins and improves your mood, while a balanced diet can provide the necessary vitamins and minerals that help reduce stress levels. As little as thirty minutes of exercise three times a week will make a huge difference. A few easy changes to your diet like drinking more water, eating more fruits and vegetables and cutting out fast food will give you the natural defences you need to combat stress.

Find Your Happy Place

This is my favorite and most beneficial tip I can give any bride. We all deal with stress at some point, so you need to find that one thing you can turn to when things get out of control. Whether it’s reading, or getting a massage or a pedicure, yoga, or even if it’s just locking yourself in your bedroom to meditate for five minutes – find something that works for you. When things get too stressful, you are prepared and can automatically turn to your happy place. You’ve heard that expression ‘Just sleep on it’. When you come back from your happy place, you might realize the problem wasn’t even that bad after all, or you’ll come back with the mental focus to face the problem head on and deal with it.

Be Grateful

This will also be a big year for your parents, siblings, close friends and family. They will be asked to throw bridal showers and engagement parties, purchase bridesmaid dresses, and take some time away from their personal lives to help with the planning of your wedding. Be patient and grateful, and make sure to include everyone in the planning process. Often the root of all family issues stems from someone not feeling like they’ve been heard or appreciated. Family dynamics are a part of every wedding, and this can be stressful when everyone has their own ideas and suggestions, and insists on providing their opinions. So patience, forgiveness, and a small thank-you note or a loving hug can go a long way in keeping everyone happy during this time.

Know It Won’t Be Perfect

Let go of the idea that everything has to be perfect. Perfection is impossible to achieve and puts far too much pressure on brides. Every bride wants their day to go perfectly, but I can tell you this, your day will NOT be perfect. Little things will happen that you can’t anticipate, plans may not run exactly to schedule, and people will not always behave or react how you would like them to. In the end, your wedding day will be the perfect day FOR YOU. Have some perspective and appreciate all the good things about the day. Move forward knowing that there will be some bumps in the road, and you will feel less stress when you look at it that way instead of trying to pull off the impossible.

Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff

It can be easy to let your emotions take over when things don’t go how you want them to, especially for the most important day of your life. But if the napkins aren’t the exact color you wanted, or your bridesmaid orders the wrong shoes, or some wording gets mixed up on the invitations – remember there are worse things in life that can happen. Be thankful for the opportunity to be planning such a joyous celebration in the first place. Causing unnecessary drama will only create bad energy for your day.

Have Fun

This is supposed to be fun! If wedding planning is starting to feel more like a job, then you really have to take a step back and re-evaluate. Maybe you need some extra help – wedding planners can step in at any stage of the planning process to take over if you are feeling too overwhelmed or stressed out. Talk to your fiancé and your family – don’t be afraid to delegate some of the jobs so that you aren’t doing it all on your own.

Remember, if the bride is happy, everyone is happy. You set the tone and energy for your wedding day and the months of planning. Making an effort to stay calm and stress free is important to a memorable wedding planning experience. Otherwise you could become overwhelmed and turn into the dreaded Bridezilla, which no bride (or those close to her) wants.

Great Ideas for Wedding Car Decorations

Whether you are providing your own vehicle for your wedding or instead are looking at hiring classic wedding cars for the occasion, having your vehicle decorated beautifully can make a big difference on your big day. These not only make the journey to and from the event extra special, but they also provide a memorable experience for everyone attending your wedding too.

Many people look to make an impression by hiring double decker buses or classic wedding cars for their event, and even though these vehicles are already special in their own right, well thought-out and beautiful decorations can still add an extra touch that will help make your day unforgettable in all the right ways.

The first suggestion for a great wedding decoration is the ‘Just Married’ sign, which can be designed to the couple’s particular tastes and preferences. This sign is almost essential for the bride and groom’s transport, and is one of the easiest and most inexpensive ways to add a special touch to your wedding transportation.

This sign can be placed in the rear window of the vehicle with a suction cup to hold it in place, or can instead be attached to the exterior of the vehicle if it is safe and possible to do so without damaging the exterior of the vehicle. For those instances where this in not possible, the interior option is still a great one in order to implement this popular decoration tradition.

In some cases, classic wedding car and bus hire services will offer ‘Just Married’ signs of their own to the people who invest in their services. These often fit in perfectly with the theme and style of the vehicle, ensuring that you make a great impression as you leave or arrive at the reception in style.

The next suggestion for a great decoration for your wedding car is adding bows and ribbons to the vehicle, including bows on door handles and ribbons fastened to the front of the car or bus. This is a very distinctive look that remains a popular one, not least because it manages to be romantic and classy all at the same time.

Again, many hire companies can and do provide these accessories, although this is not always the case. For those who want a specific colour and style of ribbon and bow decoration, it is first suggested to check with the wedding vehicle hire company to see if this is acceptable and if they have any guidelines or restrictions in this department before you start shopping.

Once you have confirmation of what is allowed and what is not you can then proceed to investing in ribbon decorations for your car. You can either make the decorations yourself to save money, or can invest in pre-made items in a variety of sizes, colours and styles. A popular colour is white – for obvious reasons – but ribbons can be large and flamboyant or small and subtle, as your prefer.

Other popular options for wedding car decorations include custom made flower arrangements that can be positioned anywhere on the vehicle. One popular location for these is behind the rear seating in an open-topped vehicle, or tucked behind the bumper of certain classic wedding cars and buses where possible.

In all cases – and regardless of the decoration that you choose – you should look to ensure that your decorations are securely attached and are unlikely to fly away whilst your vehicle is on the road. If in doubt, ask your wedding transportation company for their suggestions of what will work, ensuring that your car or bus looks beautiful on the day and makes a fantastic impression on guests.
